Strick Woods – Physician of the Year

BRIDGEPORT, CT, July 17, 2009 — Gastroenterologist  Strick Woods, MD,  of Trumbull, received the St. Vincent de Paul  Mission Award as St. Vincent’s 2009 Physician of the Year recently in ceremonies held at the Tashua Knolls Country Club in Trumbull before a gathering of several hundred people.

“Dr. Woods is an example of a physician with outstanding clinical skills. He  is also highly regarded for living the mission through his hard work, compassionate treatment of patients and families and his own personal example of  integrity and respect for all staff members,” said President/CEO Susan L. Davis, RN, EdD in her remarks. “St. Vincent’s is proud to bestow this award on him for his unwavering commitment to his patients, the Medical Center and the community.”

Dr. Woods, who has been on active staff at St. Vincent’s since 1990, was selected for his dedication to his patients and for his commitment to advancing the education of medical residents and staff members.

After graduating  from Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Dr. Woods completed his residency in medicine  at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, and then a fellowship in gastroenterology at Yale University Medical School and New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York.

A past clinical faculty member of New York Medical College, Dr. Woods is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy,  the American College of Physicians, the Fairfield County and Greater Bridgeport Medical Associations and other local and national medical societies.

Dr. Woods serves on the boards of the Bridgeport’s McGivney Center, which serves inner city children, and the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation of Southern Connecticut. He is a past board member of St. Vincent’s College.

He is a past two time nominee of the Magida Award presented by the Fairfield County Medical Association and Rosenthal Foundation to a young physician who has demonstrated a notable capacity for patient care and a special sensitivity to patient-physician relationships.
